Original WW2 Dated - British Army Yoke Utility Shoulder Strap - 37 Pattern New Old Stock!

Please note - for each purchase you will receive one strap comparable to the photos above (same maker & date). As you can see, some of the brass work is a little tarnished in places, some are mint, some a little brown. If you have a preference, please let us know.

Here we have a very useful item, the utility strap that was used for many purposes, most famously for attaching 2 bren extra auxiliary pouches together to be slung over the shoulder, this was often used by commando and beach landing troops so they could dump the extra pouches quickly when they were empty. They were also used on Lewis gun pouches and on the top of small and large packs, plus many other uses.

They are a rare single strap to find and very useful!

The Yoke, for Pouches, utility, was a short strap, with a flare, that connected the two Pouches, so that they could be slung over the shoulder. They were illustrated, in the instructional pamphlet, slung with the Front pouch to the left and rear to the right, behind the wearer’s right shoulder. Other styles were, as usual, adopted by Bren Gun Numbers, the most unusual foreshadowing the “chest rigs” of the late 20th Century. This was in the Far East campaign, where a second Rear pouch was added to the standard pair, all three being grouped across the stomach. To allow sufficient length, two Yokes must have been joined together behind the wearer’s neck.
