Available for purchase is a British Army 1958 Pattern Rifle Butt Pouch, used post-WW2 and commonly referred to as the “Northern Ireland issue butt pouch.” Made from heavy-duty green canvas, each pouch features two metal hooks on the back for attachment to the 58 Pattern webbing belt.
These pouches were originally issued for use at static checkpoints in Northern Ireland, where soldiers often stood for extended periods. Worn on the right side, the pouch was designed to support the butt of the SLR rifle, allowing the soldier to hold the weapon by its pistol grip with one hand while keeping the other free for tasks like checking identification—keeping the rifle ready for immediate use.
You will receive one pouch in good condition, chosen from the examples shown in the photos.
