A mint WW2 British Army signalling / covered soldiers combat lamp.
This is a superb example and inside there is a space for two batteries to be fitted and all the parts - lens, bulb and parts are complete.
On the rear is a large straight clip for attaching the lamp to a waist belt or a pocket.
On the back, it says Lamp Electric No1, and a /| WD mark. The lamp also has a carrying handle on the top.
The face of the lamp has a moving hood which can be used to restrict the amount of light being distributed vertically.
There is also a rotating cover which can be used to increase or decrease the amount of light being released - and there is a top button which can be pushed to make the lamp flash. Another essential part of combat signalling.
As well as being issued to combat troops, these lamps could also be fitted with red gel covers onto the lens and they could be put onto poles to indicate cleared lanes in minefields at night.
These were once a common item to find and now they have become a sought after part of a British Army soldiers field gear.
If you put batteries into this, it will still work today. This is the best, clean example we have owned.
